All I Want For Xmas......

Cleaned one of the 24" saws this morning.  UGH!  Because they are running everyday, the sludge does not have time to settle out.  I know there is one company that makes a contraption that cleans the sludge out of the oil and then recirculates it, would rather not spend the money on theirs.  I hear it is not reliable.  There was another company, but , alas  they went out of business last year.

Things I have learned about cleaning saws:

1) It is very dirty and oily.  No matter how hard you try to stay clean, just give it up.

2) Only fill the shop vac 1/3rd of the way.  Any more, and it is too difficult to lift and dump in the bucket.  Keep in mind this is a 5 gallon bucket with a pillow case in it and holes in the bottom sitting on top of a grid over another 5 gallon bucket (without the holes).  If you miss when you pour, you have a bigger mess to clean up.

3) Keep the cat litter handy.  Cover those spills immediately before you walk in it and leave oily footprints every where.

4)  Do Not lean so far into the saw that your feet leave the ground.  Doing a header into the oily muck is never a good thing.

5)  Always have a spare hose for the vac.  It really stinks when halfway through the job a rock you have just sucked up slits the hose.  They really look at you funny in Home Depot when you walk in covered with sludgy oil.  Probably wondering what sewer line you just crawled out of.

One saw clean, 3 more to go.  I think I will wait a day or two before I tackle the next one.
