Must Have Gone to Rock Heaven.....

Posted by Bev Darby, Rock n Spheres on 2nd Jun 2018

We have determined who moved the amphibolite!  Unfortunately Alan has no idea where he put it.  Ryan says it has gone to "Rock Heaven".  That is the place all good rocks go, thought to be lost, to turn up decades later.  That is his name for the area in the yard that has all the 55 gallon drums of rock.  I sure hope not.  Might not remember what it is in 10 years.

The sphere I am working on of the amphibolite looks like it will be very interesting.  I have not been able to find much info on it.  Those sassy Australians don't like to tell all.  It does appear like it might take a good polish although it isn't quite round yet.

I have started the large Ruby in Ziosite, at least one of the 2 pieces I purchased in Tucson.  The real question will be, how much Ziosite, if any, do I leave on the sphere.  It appears to be a solid piece without fractures.  This should be an interesting challenge.

About the saws..... I am back to the quandary of what to cut next.  Today there is nothing in the saws.  I am thinking the neighbors are liking the quiet, but I really do need to stop looking for the amphibolite and get back to work.

I have finished (maybe) an Indonesian Petrified Palm sphere but am working on a second to see if I can improve the polish.  This boulder was an interesting combination of gold with red "eyes".  Lovely, but i always have to try to see if a different polish will improve it.
