Tucson 2021
Posted by Bev Darby, Rock n Spheres on 4th Feb 2021
Tuesday we did a day trip to Tucson. It was so different from the past. Empty tents every where. All the hotels that line the interstate were empty. The question is, will there be a show in April?
Our goal was to restock what we sold in the few 2020 shows we had. We were able to do that and more in 3 stops.
Individual store fronts were allowed to be open by appointment. Most of what we purchased would be considered merchandise on our Quicken account. Things that were already finished. This includes Australian Tigereye slabs, Selenite plates, Labradorite freeform. Then there is the rough rock I hadn't planned on getting.
Martin always comes through with some new material from Australia. This year it was Cryptic Passion form the Port Hedland area of Australia. Beautiful patterns with pastel colors, this will be a time consuming grind.
Bruce had a new shipment of Chrysocolla come in from Mexico. You know I am a sucker for blue! Also picked up some Ricolite, that nice green black banded material from New Mexico. Of course the rough rock was not in the budget so once again I broke the bank.
Shows through may have now been cancelled. This allows us to plan a trip to Grave Yard Point and the pink Lady mine. It will great fun to hang out with Jessa Tom and Steve. We have been invited to join Lori at her mine of Thunder Eggs in New Mexico in February, Not sure we can make this happen. Alan gets his first covid vaccine on the 13th.
I had signed up to be a volunteer at a vaccination site here in Yavapai Co. I would receive a vaccination after 9 hours of working there. In the end, I decided the exposure from a full day of being in a crowd was not worth it. 12 vaccinators giving a vaccine every 15 minutes over 9 hours is a lot of people in a convention center.
