We are back from the Joshua Tree Gem and Mineral Show.  I learned a few things at this show.  It is held at the Sportsman Lodge.  This organization is amazing and very important for a small community like Joshua Tree.

Let me give a little background.  Joshua Tree is a pretty desolate place.  Located outside of the national park, it's only other draw would be that it is close to a military base.  There is no major grocery store except the Walmart is 29 Palms 30 miles away.

The Sportsman Club offers Bingo, camping and various fund raisers through out the year.  This rock and gem show being one of them.  Last year they were able to donate 1.5 million dollars back into the community.  They support a home for battered women, childhood immunizations, back pack for school age children filled with school supplies, shoes for kids.  WOW.  I was impressed.

Now comes the clean up time.  Sunday we had 45 mile per hour winds.  Talk about exfoliation by sand storm.  It is amazing how sand can get into everything!  We had a great trip despite it and look forward to supporting a new April show there.
