When the Squirrels Tap into Your Internet

Posted by Bev Darby, Rock n Spheres on 9th Mar 2018

Our internet has been spotty for awhile now.  It became significantly worse with the recent rains.  In calling the provider, we always had reception, but very weak with many episodes of internet disconnect.  I drove over and exchanged the modem.  No improvement.  Wednesday we had a technician here that thought our cable to the house might be bad.  Lo and behold!  when they climbed the pole to change out the cable, the squirrels had been chewing on it.  I wonder if they get service through their teeth.

I have been a slug on production since I've been back from Tucson.  I still have inventory in the trailer.  I have only finished one sphere this month.  That is a new low for me.  You won't find it on the web site.  It is already sold.

I have been playing with my new drop saw.  It is amazing with soft material.  Messy!  will have to work on how to keep that to a minimum.  I was able to take the corners off a 3" fluorite sphere in 5 minutes.  I will be able to make cubes with this beast too.  I need to just get comfortable with that big fast moving blade out in the open looking at me.  Yikes!

I have managed to get a Dead Camel, an Ocean Breeze, Silver Lace Onyx  and a Candy rhyolite round.  All of these are very hard and in the 4" range.  Still have a Blood Stone and a Wonderstone (old stack from our mentors) to go before I free up the high speed machine.  Most of these have been in the "I'll get to them later" pile because of their hardness.

The outside saws have been busy too.  Corners are coming off another Silver Lace, and a Pearsonite cube.  I have managed 2 cubes of petrified palm.  Currently the biggest saws have copper Rose and a moss agate also from the Pearsons.

The first Pearsonite I cut is grinding on the machine now.  I may prove to be a challenge in that the white patches are much harder than the red paisley material.  The paisley reminds me of a shirt I had in high school.  Makes me giggle everything I look at it.

I am also working on a garnet sphere.  This too is proving to be a challenge.  We will see if it ever actually gets finished.  LOL!
