Wingate Pass Plume Agate, Death Valley

Posted by Bev Darby, Rock n Spheres on 18th Sep 2017

There are those occasions that a rock type just knocks your socks off.  Wingate Pass Plume Agate is just one of those materials.  We have rarely seen it for sale and hope when we do, there is money in the checking account.  The last piece we saw was 4 years ago at the Culver City gem and  Mineral Club show.  It sold for $5000 before we could go back and get the checkbook.

Over the years, a gentleman here in the valley would buy up really old collections.  He managed to amass a large collection of Wingate.  Knowing what he had, it was priced accordingly.  His last piece now sits in Bruce Barlow side yard in Phoenix.  We were very surprised to see it there and knew where he had gotten it.  That was the last piece I know about that was for sale.

Alan does have a sphere made out of this material.

Over the weekend, the other portion of the boulder went into the saw.  I was very surprised that Alan finally agreed to cut it up.  The spheres out of it will be in a place of honor if we get into the Tucson show.  I hope to here soon.
