3 7/8 inch Honey Onyx Sphere from Trona, Ca. This source for Honey Onyx comes from outside Trona Ca. It is located at the top of a mountain. Of course, it is embedded in a heavy ash that requires chisels and picks to remove it. We found the best time to dig is after a rainstorm when the ash is softer. Unfortunately this area is outside of Death Valley and rain is a rare occurrence.
Although the coloring is not as brilliant as other sites for honey onyx, this material has amazing “eyes” and takes a mirror polish. Colors range from pale yellow to white or brown.
